The Junior Sailing Program at the Shinnecock Yacht Club is dedicated to teaching the basic
principles of sailing to beginners of all ages, as well as instructing our more advanced sailors
in the finer art of sailboat racing. Our Junior Program in Optimus Prams and JY15’s is open to
members and non-members alike. Our staff of four instructors (along with Bob deYoung, our
club steward) is trained and certified by USSail, the national governing body of sailing. The
afternoon sessions are broken into two instruction periods to insure that each student
receives the hands-on instruction they need. This also enables the Yacht Club to
accommodate more sailors when schedule conflicts arise.
The Sailing Program is an integral part of the Shinnecock Yacht Club, and the Board of
Trustees welcomes and encourages active participation by members of all ages. For more
information about the program, please contact the Yacht Club.
